Truth and Justice

November 11, 2017

Allah has enjoined Muslims to establish justice in every matter, but today we see that general Muslim population and scholars are not abiding by this teaching. For example, people tell lies in court [i.e. perjury] in domestic matters to get their rights. This is how corruption spreads in society and justice is overlooked. The claim of Muslims is that we are the best of nations [Khair-e-Ummat], but this can only be the case if we follow the teachings of Islam.

Synopsis:

  • Allah has enjoined Muslims to establish justice in every matter, but today we see that general Muslim population and scholars are not abiding by this teaching. As such, irrespective of the situation, the testimony of a believer must always be based on truth and should be given for the sake of Allah. And this can only happen when a person has true faith in God. And he is even willing to testify against himself, his parents and his family.
  • It is sad to see that, from time to time, injustice even takes place amongst us in the matters of Qaza and business dealings. Even those who possess religious knowledge are sometimes guilty of this. We should remember that God cannot be deceived and all our actions will be put forward in front of us on the Day of Judgment. The Promised Messiah (as) has set high standards for us. It is mentioned that in his days of young age, the Promised Messiah (as) gave testimony against his own father in a court case. This was despite the fact that the lawyer had told him he would lose if he gave this testimony. After having lost the case, the Promised Messiah (as) left the court with such jubilance, as if he had won the case.
  • We should keep such examples in front of us. Some people evade taxes by hiding their income and become a source of disgrace after getting caught. If we act according to the teachings of God, He is the best of Sustainers. Some people lie in matrimonial matters. Some people try to disgrace their ex-husband or ex-wife after divorce. Such matters are against the standards of justice expected of Ahmadi Muslims.
  • We should never wrong anyone based on difference of religion. A true believer is he who upholds justice and peace in every matter. The injustices of Muslims are highlighted a lot in the western world; that is, how Muslims are killing each other, and how Muslim rulers are oppressing their own people. Some Muslims even commit atrocities when they come to western countries. They justify such wrongful actions by saying they are taking revenge from the western people, when in fact the real culprits are the Muslim leaders who are behind the oppression. For example, drones and bombings were done with the agreement of local Muslim leaders. This type of thinking only creates further enmities. And it is against the teaching of the Holy Quran, which states that the enmity of a nation should not incite you to be unjust towards them. Unfortunately, the Muslim clerics of today have misguided the Muslim masses. It is our responsibility to explain the true teachings of Islam and the true character of the Holy Prophet (saw).
  • Once the Holy Prophet (saw) sent some Muslims to spy on the enemies during the time of war. In the sacred area around Kaaba, some people saw these Muslims. Afraid of being exposed, Muslims killed two of the people. People came to the Holy Prophet (saw) to complain about the murders. The Holy Prophet (saw) did not say that you have also been oppressing us [i.e these killings are justified]; rather, he said that you have been wronged, and gave blood-money as per the custom of that time. And the Holy Prophet (sa) severely reprimanded those Muslims.
  • Such are the standards which we must follow. The Promised Messiah (as) was sent to re-establish such standards among Muslims. We cannot do true Tabligh without first establishing such standards of justice amongst us. Otherwise, the world would tell us to first look after our own affairs. May Allah enable us to follow his teachings and may he enable us to become a role-model for others in establishing justice!
  • Huzoor Anwar (aa) announced the funeral prayer of Respected Hasan Muhammad Khan sahib, former Naib Wakilut-Tabshir in Pakistan, and a Waqf-e-Zindagi, who held many offices. He was a Musi and had immense passion for Tabligh. He was imprisoned in God’s way in 1953. After arrival in Canada, he served as Editor of Ahmadiyya Gazette until 2006.

The Exemplary Ahmadiyya Jama’at

Synopsis:English

It is great grace and favour of God on the Jama’at of the Promised Messiah(as) that He has given it people who understand the spirit of their pledges and understand the spirit of sacrifice and not only do they understand the spirit of sacrifice but they also set models of it of which many examples can be found in this age. If it is a matter of financial sacrifice, it is the Ahmadis who demonstrate it, if sacrifice of time is demanded, the Ahmadiyya Jama’at present excellent models of it.

The first thing to remember here is that when we claim to be a Divine community we should be mindful that such communities do not believe in relying on worldly governments and protestations. There is no hand of any worldly help in the progress of Divine communities. Moreover, worldly help is never unconditional, it is never offered without any clause to capitulate before whoever is offering help and true believers cannot abide by this. They seek help from God and turn to Him alone.

By way of example of the stance of worldly people Huzoor said a newspaper here published an article saying that Muslims are not loyal to this country and they should be expelled/deported. Our press section responded to this and told them that this was incorrect and Islam teaches being loyal to the law of the land and to love ones’ country. They said in response that this was not what how other Muslims behaved and asked us to write something advisory to them.

Another example of a person who understood the spirit of sacrifice was demonstrated by Sahibzada Abdul Latif Shaheed. The king repeatedly asked him to reject and deny the Promised Messiah(as) and incited him with freedom in return. Every single time Sahibazada Sahib’s reply would be that if God was granting him a death that makes one a recipient of blessings, why would he turn away from it. He said it was a strange ignorant deal to ask for!

Each one of us should try and aspire to become as the Promised Messiah explains and this is not possible without the grace of God. If a person makes effort and becomes like this, then God comes forward and holds such a person and this is when God gives glad-tidings of Paradise and for this He has taught us prayer for steadfastness, prayer for gaining triumph over the enemy. It signifies that by accepting the prayer God will open the doors of triumph in such a way that the enemy will have nowhere to escape.

Synopsis:

Huzoor explained that adopting Divine attributes is an expression of love of God and as Huzoor had explained in his Friday sermons based on knowledge and understanding of God a few weeks ago, unless one is aware of all attributes of God one cannot have His knowledge and understanding. Love of God is the next step up and when Divine attributes are adopted one receives Divine light.

Phrases like, ‘my crop flourished only because I irrigated it’ or ‘I was successful because of my own endeavour’, or ‘my such and such purpose was fulfilled because of Zaid’s kindness’ or ‘I was saved from ruin because of Bakr’s vigilance’ appear trivial and false. One sees only One Being, One Power, One Benefactor and One Hand. It is then that man sees favours of God Almighty with clarity and with no hint of the murkiness of relying on ways and means.

God Almighty has named this religion Islam with the objective of man worshipping God Almighty owing to his inherent passion and not selfish motives because Islam is the name of abandoning all motives and willingly submitting to the will of God. There is no other religion in the world save Islam which has these objectives. No doubt, as a sign of His grace God Almighty has promised the believers all kinds of blessings. However, the believers who aspire to higher station have been taught to worship God out of personal love for Him.

It is for this reason that those who enjoy a holy and perfect relationship with God always occupy themselves with Istighfar. A true lover is always apprehensive lest his beloved should become annoyed with him, and his heart is filled with the thirst to please Him perfectly, and he is not content even when God Himself informs him that He is pleased with him.

The Promised Messiah(as) said: ‘If you find out that you have the capacity to love like a true and ardent devotee, who endures hunger and thirst when separated from the Beloved and has no care for food or drink or his body, you should become absorbed in love of God in such a way that your own being is lost somewhere along the way. Man is very fortunate if he dies in such a state. We are interested in personal love and not revelations and visions.

If you become God’s, be assured that God is yours. He will wake for you when you are asleep, you will be unaware of the enemy and He will watch over him, and will destroy his ploys. You do not know yet of the powers of your God. Had you known you would have been extremely saddened every day for this world! A person who has a treasure-trove with him does not scream and cry over losing a penny.

God has appointed knowledge and understanding as the principal means of obtaining a true concept of Islam. Though there are other means for obtaining such knowledge, like fasting, Prayer, supplication and carrying out all the Divine commandments, the number of which exceeds six hundred, yet the knowledge of the Greatness of God and of His Unity and of His attributes of Glory and Beauty is basic for everything.

After this explanation Huzoor said that in two days InshaAllah the Jama’at will commemorate Masih e Maud Day on 23 March. On this occasion scholars and orators speak on the subject and mention God’s help and support for the Promised Messiah(as). It was a beautiful coincidence that Huzoor spoke today, two days prior, with reference to the same subject.

The Promised Messiah(as) further said: ‘Just as another Hadith relates the eclipse took place twice in the month of Ramadan. First in this country and the second time in America and it came to pass both times during the dates the Hadith refers to. Since at the time these eclipses took place, no one in the world except me claimed to be the Mahdi and Messiah and no one declared the eclipse to be a sign of him being the Mahdi like I did publishing hundreds of posters and pamphlets in Urdu, Persian and Arabic around the world, therefore this heavenly sign is designated to me.

Some foolish Maulwis write that Ghulam Dastgir did not give challenge of Mubahla and only invoked malediction upon the cruel. But I say that since he asked God’s verdict through my death and called me cruel then why did the malediction befall him? And why did God kill Ghulam Dastgir at a sensitive time when people anticipated Divine verdict, whereas he wished my death in his prayer so that he could prove to the world that just as a false Mahdi and Messiah had died through the malediction of Muhammad Tahir, this person died through my malediction.

Today 125 years have elapsed and the Jama’at is moving onwards and upwards. Will these people not have sense? Will our opponents not desist from their opposition? It is our prayer that may God give them sense and they accept the Imam of the age, the Promised Messiah(as). Because when God’s chastisement comes it seizes no matter how powerful one may be, it blows like dust and turns into cinders! May they understand and recognise the truth.

Synopsis:

English

A conference on world religions was held here in London in 1924 which was graced by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II(ra). These days our Jama’at is known to others and we have connections; due to the Ahmadiyya persecution many human rights organisations know about us. Due to our connections, we are known to MPs and academics here and other countries. We did not have these connections in those days.

The said conference is widely known as Wembley Conference. In early 1924, a socialist leader William Loftus Hare suggested to hold a religious conference in conjunction with the renowned Wembley Exhibition to which religious representatives of the religions of the British Empire should be invited to expound principles of their religions.
23 September 1924 was a golden day in Huzoor’s European tour when Huzoor’s superlative treatise was read out at the Wembley Conference and it was a splendorous representation of Islam Ahmadiyyat and brought the message of Islam in the true sense to Europe. This was also a fabulous fulfilment of the vision of the Promised Messiah(as) about giving an address in London.

Chaudhry Zafrullah Khan Sahib read the treatise in a commanding tone although he had a bit of sore throat but Divine succour was with him, he took one hour to read the treatise. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II(ra) once said, ‘although Chaudhry Zafrullah Sahib read the treatise, it was my tongue [speaking].’ The audience listened to the address in a trance. It appeared as if all the audience were Ahmadi, people sat with rapt attention till the end.

Al Fazl reported ‘after the treatise of Mirza Bashir ud Din Ahmad the president of the conference said in his remarks that the Ahmadiyya Movement and other such current movements prove that Islam is a living religion and high level scholarship was engaged in for its renaissance. Mirza Bashir ud Din who was accompanied by many green-turbaned followers said that Ahmadiyya Movement is an important and natural revival of Islam just as dispensation of Jesus was for the dispensation of Moses.’

Head of the Free Church Dr Walter Wash who was a great orator said that he was most fortunate to listen to the treatise. A professor of law said that as he listened he felt as if it was the beginning of a new era. He also said that had thousands been spent in some other way, it would not have availed such great success. A priest said that three years ago he had seen in a dream that Jesus had come with thirteen disciples and now the dream had been fulfilled.

Newspaper Manchester Guardian reported the conference on 24 September 1924 and said: ‘An incident that caused excitement in the conference took place when a new sect of Islam was mentioned.’ They said they were using the term new sect for ease as its adherent did not consider it as a correct term. The paper said: ‘According to people of this sect they were established 34 years ago by the Messiah who is prophesised in the Bible and other books.
