Christians doubting Jesus’ death on Cross as they doubt Jesus’ resurrection from the physical dead

Hi

Since Paul built a house on sands that Jesus died a physical death on Cross, the Pauline/Christian creed to lend support to it is in jeopardy. Having none as an eye witness to testify on it to the present or modern standards, they loom about for a supportive dictum. One such is presented by allaboutjesuschrist.org named as Aristotle’s Dictum. I searched for it in the wikipedia, but could find no such eye witness Aristotle’s dictum on Jesus death on Cross.

I would like some Christian with real faith, not a mythical blind faith, to kindly help me find one. A mythical or blind faith is of no use in the face of reality or certainty. Please don’t get disturbed this is perhaps the usual imaginative criteria of the Christian mythical faith.

Jesus’ Resurrection – An Historical Event?

So, is Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead an historical event? It is proclaimed throughout the four Gospels as well as ancient correspondence. If these works are the historical documents they claim to be, then they bare witness to an historical event. According to Aristotle’s Dictum, these pieces meet the criteria for legitimate historical documents. However, as they describe miraculous events, they are not recognized by secular society as valid testimony. How then will these accounts be validated? Two questions must be asked. First, do the authors of these literary pieces discredit their work, or do their lives give credit to their testimony? Second, do accepted historical authorities corroborate these accounts?

Promised Messiah 1835-1908says:

On the evidence from books of history
which show that the coming of Jesus to
the Punjab and neighbouring territories was inevitable

The question naturally arises, why Jesus after his escape from the Cross, came to this country what induced him to take such a long journey? It becomes necessary to answer this question in some detail. I have already said something about it, nevertheless, I think it would be helpful to set out the entire topic in this book.

Let it be noted, therefore, that it was extremely necessary, by reasons of his office as a divine messenger, for Jesus (on whom be peace) to have journeyed towards the Punjab and its neighbourhood, for the ten tribes of Israel, who in the Gospels have been called the Lost Sheep of Israel, had migrated to this country, a fact which is not denied by an historian. It was necessary, therefore, that Jesus (on whom be peace) should have journeyed to this country and, after finding the Lost Sheep, he should have conveyed to them his divine message.

If he had not done so, his purpose would have remained unfulfilled, for his mission was to preach to the Lost Sheep of Israel; his passing away from the world without seeking these lost sheep and, after finding them, teaching them the way to salvation, would have been like the case of a man who had been charged by his king to go to a wild tribe in order to dig a well and supply them with water, but who goes instead to some other place, spends three or four years there and takes no steps to search for the tribe. Does such a man carry out the command of the king? No, not in the least; the man cares not for that tribe: he merely looks to his own comfort.

One Response to “Christians doubting Jesus’ death on Cross as they doubt Jesus’ resurrection from the physical dead”

  1. agoerner Says:

    Dear Paarsurrey

The physical death of Jesus on the cross is well attested historically in comparison with the swoon theory and that Jesus later dies in India. I’ve posted this evidence before and gotten no answer from you and so here it is again.

    HISTORICAL EVIDENCE

The Old Testament prophets testified to Jesus death and burial. For example, Isaiah wrote almost 700 years before Jesus,

    Isaiah 53:7-9
He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth. By oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation, who considered That He was cut off out of the land of the living For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due? His grave was assigned with wicked men, Yet He was with a rich man in His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.

Jesus testified to His death on multiple occasions. Here are a few examples:

    Matthew 16:21
From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

    Matthew 20:17-19
Now as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”

    Matthew 26:1-2
When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, “As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

    Matthew 26:6-12
While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.” Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.

Here are some eyewitnesses to the death of Jesus on the cross:

    Mary Magdalene
Mary the mother of James and Joseph
    Mary the mother of Jesus
The disciple whom Jesus loved (John 19:26)

Here is a list of names of people who participated in the burial of Jesus’ dead body:

    Joseph of Arimathea
    Nicodemus
    Mary Magdalene
Mary the mother of James and Joseph

Even non-Christian sources wrote that Jesus died:

Josephus (Jewish historian born around 37 AD and died 100 AD) refers to Jesus’ death (Antiquities 18.3.3).

Tacitus (AD 55-120), a renowned historian of ancient Rome wrote around 115 A.D. that Christ was “executed” by Pilate (Annals 15.44).

The law/Torah requires that a matter be established by two or three witnesses (Deuteronomy 17:6-7). Therefore, the testimonies of Jesus, Old Testament prophets, Jesus’ followers, non-Christian historians, etc. is true, legal and believable compared to the testimony of Muhammad (or the Qur’an), which was written nearly six hundred years after the event. To put it simply, the Law of Moses makes it unlawful to believe the Qur’an.

I’ve provided substantial 1st century testimony to Jesus death on the cross. The Qur’an came hundreds of years after the event; it has no historical support from the 1st century to support its claim and is vague. The Qur’an does not explain who died on the cross, it does not explain whether the disciples of Jesus were deceived, and does not explain why Allah has allowed the world to be deceived (or did Allah deceive the world?) about this for hundreds of years.

An honest look at the facts leads to the conclusion that the Christian Scriptures are superior to the Qur’an because of the superior evidence available demonstrating the death of Jesus on the cross.

    MEDICAL EVIDENCE

Here is medical evidence from a peer reviewed medical journal (one of the most prestigious in the world) that Jesus died on the cross and did now swoon,

“Clearly, the weight of historical and medical evidence indicates that Jesus was dead before the wound to his side was inflicted and supports the traditional view that the spear, thrust between his right rib, probably perforated not only the right lung but also the pericardium and heart and thereby ensured his death. Accordingly, interpretations based on the assumption that Jesus did not die on the cross appear to be at odds with modern medical knowledge.”
Citation: William D. Edwards, MD; Wesley J. Gabel, MDiv; Floyd E. Hosmer, MS, AMI; “On the Physical Death of Jesus Christ”; Journal of the American Medical Association 21 March 1986; Volume 255, 1463; available at http://www.brainshavings.com/supplements/crucifixion/

Can you provide better medical evidence for the swoon theory from a peer reviewed journal and not simply from isolated doctors?

If you are unable to provide superior testimony then I invite you to embrace Christianity as the truth and only way of salvation. Jesus said, “I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins.” (John 8:24)

I pray that you would carefully read my postings and that God would move you from fiction to fact. I invite you to love Jesus by believing what He taught and believing in His death and resurrection for sinners.

    Sincerely,
    Aaron
