Status of women in ancient Atheism people’s civilizations

December 5, 2017

There existed no worthwhile Atheistic or Agnostic society in the ancient* in any large numbers. Had it been so?

I would like to know status of women in those cultures or civilizations. That is why sometimes I think that there was no worthwhile Atheist Agnostic culture anywhere in the world in the ancient times; might be no Atheist Agnostic existed in those times; and it might be simply a recent growth

Right, please?
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Buddha: on conduct towards women

March 22, 2013

Gospel of Buddha

“Guard against looking on a woman. 4
“If ye see a woman, let it be as though ye saw her not, and have no conversation with her. 5
“If, after all, ye must speak with her, let it be with a pure heart, and think to yourself, ‘I as a samana will live in this sinful world as the spotless leaf of the lotus, unsoiled by the mud in which it grows.’ 6
“If the woman be old, regard her as your mother, if young, as your sister, if very young, as your child. 7
“The samana who looks on a woman as a woman, or touchesher as a woman, has broken his vow and is no longer a disciple of the Tathagata. 8
“The power of lust is great with men, and is to be feared withal; take then the bow of earnest perseverance, and the sharp arrow-points of wisdom. 9
“Cover your heads with the helmet of right thought, and fight with fixed resolve against the five desires. 10
“Lust beclouds a man’s heart, when it is confused with woman’s beauty, and the mind is dazed. 11
“Better far with red-hot irons bore out both your eyes, than encourage in yourself sensual thoughts, or look upon a woman’s form with lustful desires. 12
“Better fall into the fierce tiger’s mouth, or under the sharp knife of the executioner, than dwell with a woman and excite in yourself lustful thoughts. 13
“A woman of the world is anxious to exhibit her form and shape, whether walking, standing, sitting, or sleeping. Even when represented as a picture, she desires to captivate with the charms of her beauty, and thus to rob men of their steadfast heart. 14
“How then ought ye to guard yourselves? 15
“By regarding her tears and her smiles as enemies, her stooping form, her hanging arms, and her disentangled hair as toils designed to entrap man’s heart. 16
“Therefore, I say, restrain the heart, give it no unbridled license.” 17

Paarsurrey says:

Please view Quranic view revealed on Muhammad; which is the same as Buddha’s in my opinion.

[24:31] Say to the believing men that they restrain their eyes and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Surely, Allah is well aware of what they do.
[24:32] And say to the believing women that they restrain their eyes and guard their private parts, and that they disclose not their natural and artificial beauty except that which is apparent thereof, and that they draw their head-coverings over their bosoms, and that they disclose not their beauty save to their husbands, or to their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands or their sons or the sons of their husbands or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their women, or what their right hands possess, or such of male attendants as have no sexual appetite, or young children who have no knowledge of the hidden parts of women. And they strike not their feet so that what they hide of their ornaments may become known. And turn ye to Allah all together, O believers, that you may succeed.

Buddha did not hate women

April 30, 2012

It is true that Buddha forbade his followers on looking on the opposite sex; but that was for spiritual reasons; that does not mean he hated women.

Buddha treated women respectfully, politely and very nicely; and it was on women’s insistence that he admitted them into his SANGHA. His wife and son joined the SANGHA on their own will and were not forced into it. It is wrong to state that Buddha hated women.Buddha was not a misogynist.

Quran respects women

October 31, 2009

Hi friends

Quran respects women; and there is a separate Chapter in Quran in the name of women to show the respect.

I will just give a verse from Quran in this connection:

[4:24] Forbidden to you are your mothers, and your daughters, and your sisters, and your fathers’ sisters, and your mothers’ sisters, and brother’s daughters, and sister’s daughters, and your foster-mothers that have given you suck, and your foster-sisters, and the mothers of your wives, and your stepdaughters, who are your wards by your wives unto whom you have gone in — but if you have not gone in unto them, there shall be no sin upon you — and the wives of your sons that are from your loins; and it is forbidden to you to have two sisters together in marriage, except what has already passed; surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.

Paarsurrey says:‎

Hi friend mmitchc633‎

Yes, in all monotheistic religions women are not made head of the religious rituals; I ‎think that is but natural; and might be woman also like it; to mention it as ‎subjugation might not be correct, in my opinion.‎

In the field of Sciences and Arts; the role of women in the human history has been ‎naturally second to woman.‎

All human beings are equals in the eyes of God Allah YHWH.‎
