Verses Cited in this Friday Sermon:

Synopsis:

  • The Promised Messiah (as) has explained in detail about true virtue and how one can progress in this way. He writes that virtuous actions are a means towards God and Islam. But you should remember what true virtue is. Satan attempts to misguide people from every path. For example, if a person has fresh food, giving old, rotten food to a beggar would be against true virtue according to the teachings of Holy Quran. To attain true virtue, one must be very careful in all matters. And to attain this true virtue, one must have faith in the being of God and that God watches over everything.
  • Promised Messiah (as) says that true Taqwa is to discard even the smallest of immoral actions. However, Taqwa is not that one did not committed adultery or theft. True virtue is to serve mankind and demonstrate perfect devotion and loyalty in the way of God. Virtue cannot be achieved by just leaving immoral actions; it must be accompanied by righteous actions.
  • The Promised Messiah (as) says that man shouldn’t become happy or content that he hasn’t committed adultery or hasn’t stolen anything. This isn’t something significant. Unless he acquires good actions after having left immoral actions, he cannot stay alive in the spiritual world. Good actions are like food. Just like man cannot stay alive without food, he cannot stay alive spiritually without virtuous actions.
  • The Promised Messiah (as) says that a truly virtuous person is he whose inner condition matches his outward state. The root of virtue is faith in God. As man starts to decrease in faith, his good actions diminish as well. Therefore, the foremost duty of our Jama’at is to acquire true faith in Allah. Huzoor Anwar (aa) said that this should be our target that we strengthen our belief in God. Only then would we be able to do good actions and be considered among the best of people as mentioned in the Holy Quran.
  • Promised Messiah (as) says that man can only stay away from immoral actions if he has faith in God. Then the second stage should be to look for ways followed by those who attained closeness to God, meaning Prophets and Saints. These ways can be learned by studying how God treated such people.
  • The Promised Messiah (as) has also explained that even in use of things that are permissible, virtuous people adopt a moderate way and do not exceed bounds. It is not such that man should not benefit from good things. Allah has not even forbidden Prophets from using comfortable and good things. However, these people are not overtaken by such possessions meaning their true and primary purpose is always their faith and attaining closeness to God.
  • The Promised Messiah (as) writes about true virtue: Remember, in my estimation the scope of sympathy is very wide. One should not exclude any group or individual. I do not say––like the ignorant people of this age––that you should limit your kindness to only Muslims. I say that you should have sympathy for all of God’s creation no matter who they are, whether a Hindu, or a Muslim, or something else. I never approve the words of such people who wish to limit sympathy only to their own people.
  • May Allah enable us to carry out righteous actions for the sake of Allah’s pleasure! Huzoor Anwar (aa) announced the following three funeral prayers in absentia: Hamid Maqsood sahib (Murabbi Silsila), Ali Saidi Sahib (Former Ameer Tanzania) and Nusrat Begum Sahiba.

On 10 October 2017, the Most Reverend, the Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace, Justin Welby visited London’s oldest Mosque, the Fazl Mosque where he met with the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph), His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.

Caliph and Archbishop speak of need for worldwide religious freedom

On 10 October 2017, the Most Reverend, the Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace, Justin Welby visited London’s oldest Mosque, the Fazl Mosque where he met with the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph), His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.

Earlier, the Archbishop also visited the largest Mosque in Western Europe, the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden.

During the meeting, the Caliph and the Archbishop discussed the continued persecution of religious minorities in various parts of the world.

His Holiness informed the Archbishop that he himself had been falsely imprisoned in Pakistan in 1999 prior to his election as Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

During the meeting, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad spoke of the need for ‘tolerance’ in society and for ‘mutual respect’ to be displayed by all people and communities. He said that it was imperative that people had the right to practice their religion freely and without any form of coercion.

The meeting concluded as His Holiness presented the Archbishop with a copy of the Holy Quran, including both the original Arabic text and the English translation.

Following the meeting, the Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace, Justin Welby said during an interview with MTA News:

“It was a great honour to meet His Holiness (Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad). It was a wonderful meeting, hospitable and warm…

We spoke principally about the issues of persecution, which is something the Ahmadiyya Community is well aware of and suffers hugely and we also spoke about the nature of religious extremism around the world in the different faiths and the importance of faith communities in the United Kingdom standing together, both for the common good of the country and for each other’s support.”

During his visit, the Archbishop was given a tour of both the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden and the Fazl Mosque in Southfields.

Synopsis:

English

Huzoor explained that adopting Divine attributes is an expression of love of God and as Huzoor had explained in his Friday sermons based on knowledge and understanding of God a few weeks ago, unless one is aware of all attributes of God one cannot have His knowledge and understanding. Love of God is the next step up and when Divine attributes are adopted one receives Divine light.

Phrases like, ‘my crop flourished only because I irrigated it’ or ‘I was successful because of my own endeavour’, or ‘my such and such purpose was fulfilled because of Zaid’s kindness’ or ‘I was saved from ruin because of Bakr’s vigilance’ appear trivial and false. One sees only One Being, One Power, One Benefactor and One Hand. It is then that man sees favours of God Almighty with clarity and with no hint of the murkiness of relying on ways and means.

God Almighty has named this religion Islam with the objective of man worshipping God Almighty owing to his inherent passion and not selfish motives because Islam is the name of abandoning all motives and willingly submitting to the will of God. There is no other religion in the world save Islam which has these objectives. No doubt, as a sign of His grace God Almighty has promised the believers all kinds of blessings. However, the believers who aspire to higher station have been taught to worship God out of personal love for Him.

It is for this reason that those who enjoy a holy and perfect relationship with God always occupy themselves with Istighfar. A true lover is always apprehensive lest his beloved should become annoyed with him, and his heart is filled with the thirst to please Him perfectly, and he is not content even when God Himself informs him that He is pleased with him.

The Promised Messiah(as) said: ‘If you find out that you have the capacity to love like a true and ardent devotee, who endures hunger and thirst when separated from the Beloved and has no care for food or drink or his body, you should become absorbed in love of God in such a way that your own being is lost somewhere along the way. Man is very fortunate if he dies in such a state. We are interested in personal love and not revelations and visions.

If you become God’s, be assured that God is yours. He will wake for you when you are asleep, you will be unaware of the enemy and He will watch over him, and will destroy his ploys. You do not know yet of the powers of your God. Had you known you would have been extremely saddened every day for this world! A person who has a treasure-trove with him does not scream and cry over losing a penny.

God has appointed knowledge and understanding as the principal means of obtaining a true concept of Islam. Though there are other means for obtaining such knowledge, like fasting, Prayer, supplication and carrying out all the Divine commandments, the number of which exceeds six hundred, yet the knowledge of the Greatness of God and of His Unity and of His attributes of Glory and Beauty is basic for everything.

After this explanation Huzoor said that in two days InshaAllah the Jama’at will commemorate Masih e Maud Day on 23 March. On this occasion scholars and orators speak on the subject and mention God’s help and support for the Promised Messiah(as). It was a beautiful coincidence that Huzoor spoke today, two days prior, with reference to the same subject.

The Promised Messiah(as) further said: ‘Just as another Hadith relates the eclipse took place twice in the month of Ramadan. First in this country and the second time in America and it came to pass both times during the dates the Hadith refers to. Since at the time these eclipses took place, no one in the world except me claimed to be the Mahdi and Messiah and no one declared the eclipse to be a sign of him being the Mahdi like I did publishing hundreds of posters and pamphlets in Urdu, Persian and Arabic around the world, therefore this heavenly sign is designated to me.

Some foolish Maulwis write that Ghulam Dastgir did not give challenge of Mubahla and only invoked malediction upon the cruel. But I say that since he asked God’s verdict through my death and called me cruel then why did the malediction befall him? And why did God kill Ghulam Dastgir at a sensitive time when people anticipated Divine verdict, whereas he wished my death in his prayer so that he could prove to the world that just as a false Mahdi and Messiah had died through the malediction of Muhammad Tahir, this person died through my malediction.

Today 125 years have elapsed and the Jama’at is moving onwards and upwards. Will these people not have sense? Will our opponents not desist from their opposition? It is our prayer that may God give them sense and they accept the Imam of the age, the Promised Messiah(as). Because when God’s chastisement comes it seizes no matter how powerful one may be, it blows like dust and turns into cinders! May they understand and recognise the truth.

Synopsis:

English

Hazrat Khalifatul Masih said that about three weeks ago Jama’at Ahmadiyya UK held a conference to commemorate its 100 years in Britain. Scholars and representatives of various religions were invited to present concept of God and religion based on their scriptures. The theme of the conference was God in the 21st Century. Indeed, Islam was going to be represented at the conference and it was done by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih. Other religions represented were Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Druzes and Zoroastrianism. Also present at the event were Sikhs and Baha’i.

Before giving the details Huzoor said that the administration of UK Jama’at which organised such a big event did not promote it ahead of time as they should have and were satisfied by simply organising it and anticipating a large number of guests. This was a chance to introduce the Jama’at on a wide scale and disseminate the beautiful teaching of Islam to as many people as possible. If the media had been contacted properly it would have produced better results than what we have as a result of efforts Ameer Sahib and his team is making now.

Baroness Warsi said: ‘It is an honour to speak before such an illustrious audience in such prestigious surrounding here at the conference of world religions. It is a testament to the openness and the pragmatism and the humility of the Ahmadiyya community that your flagship global event today is not just about celebrating your own faith but you are celebrating all faiths.

A message from Her Majesty the Queen who is the supreme governor of the Church of England and defender of the faith read: ‘The Queen was pleased to receive your kind message sent on behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association UK on the occasion of the conference of world religions being held today at Guildhall as part of your centenary celebrations. Her Majesty was interested to learn of the aims of the conference and appreciates your thoughtfulness in writing as you did.
Huzoor told the conference that when God sent the Holy Prophet(saw) to reform the entire world, he surpassed in disseminating the message and not only that, he spent his nights in intense prayer and supplication made to God. In doing so he wept with such anguish and heartache that the place where he prostrated would become submerged in tears. His agony and anguish to reform mankind cannot be described in words.

Huzoor also told the conference that God’s help is with the one He sent in this age, otherwise how could a claimant from a small village in India become renowned throughout the world. And following his passing away without God’s help he could not have left behind such a flourishing community. A community which due to being firmly attached to the institution of Khilafat, was furthering his mission throughout the world.

Next Hazrat Khalifatul Masih said that may the world turn to its Maker, it can only be saved from the destruction that it faces by turning to God. Indeed, the Promised Messiah(as) had warned about this in his writings. Huzoor asked for prayers for the situation in Pakistan. May God save the country from the evil and keep Ahmadis safe and also them safe who wish for peace and wish to avoid conflict and strife. Prayers should also be made about the situation in Syria, may God protect Ahmadis there.
