I think one should not doubt unless there is a reasonable ground to doubt; this way one could avoid being a prey to cynicism.

Thanks and regards

De Omnibus Dubitandum

Lately, I’ve noticed that there have been a lot of search inquiries to the phrase “De Omnibus Dubitandum,” which so happens to be the title of this blog, and it has lead a lot of people here. To their misfortune, however, the meaning or translation of that phrase is nowhere to be found… until now.

De Omnibus Dubitandum means “All is to be doubted.” It’s Latin of course, and the phrase is attributed to Rene Descartes (1596-1650), the notable French philosopher.

I’m quite fond of the phrase because it serves as the foundation for those with a skeptical, independent, free, and inquisitive mind. Some of us have this by nature, an innate desire to demand proof and evidence before latching on to a belief system or ideology. In others, this desire needs to be cultivated.

Unfortunately, the struggle between society’s demanding of conformity and the individual’s desire to live freely…

One Response to “The Meaning Of…”

  1. Hank Kimball Says:

Jeremiah 10:23; ” I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.”
Yes, to doubt is good. I believe it can lead one to truth about anything they desire. CAN, is the key word. In the material all truth is really relative. To state that any material thing is, is only relative to the time span that it is. If I said the sun is huge, that would be true–FOR A LIMITED TIME. It has the same property of truth in the statement that “it is raining outside. ” It is true ONLY for an appointed time, then it is NOT true. One may be longer in duration of it’s truth, but relative truth is relative truth.
Transcendental truth is truth that has been, and always will be true. It is truth that is eternal. If I say, “God IS”, that would be transcendental truth.
It is the divine nature of existence that causes some people to be drawn to transcendental truth. It is how people conclude, intelligently that God IS. The idea that this universe was created out of nothing and means nothing and goes nowhere, isn’t very intelligent to conclude. It reeks of one that hasn’t really given it much thought. It is an idea of an angry person whose real difficulty lies within the ego. To conclude that we are the Alfa and Omega, and first and last word of all that is, is rather arrogant of us.
To conclude that we are intelligent agents of God’s ever advancing creation, shows a thoughtful and intelligent mind. Atheist see this kind of thinking as weak and mushy. It is paradoxically, the thinking that leads to independence and strength ordinarily not our own.
The problem with the Atheist is that he has already made up his mind, BEFORE, on how God OUGHT to be, IF God really exist. Since God doesn’t measure up to his FINITE human mind’s ideal of what God’s creation should look like, he simple refuses to acknowledge the POSSIBILITY that God really is.
People look at the bible and say “I see hypocrisy in it and conflicting ideas and actions with God, and a God would not have done those things, how could there be a God? These same people look at the world and say; “Look at all the bad things in the world, how could a God allow all this?
They never will consider that MAYBE it is their own thinking that is off. It’s plain that they are set in their ideas about their not being a God. They aren’t even open to it. The evidence is that they don’t really want the answers to the questions to begin with!
A person who really wants to find out if God really is would FIRST have to want to. Then they would have to SIT down with someone in conscious contact with God and open their mind and ASK ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS and WANT the answers. This format is NOT conducive to that. That is why I type; it is in the hope that God might use me to prove to you that He IS. It’s the ONLY reason. NOTHING else is important.
Nobody realizes that is Atheist, that they had been measuring God from their own idea of HOW GOD SHOULD BE! Having NO experience with what it means to be a PERFECT GOD; yet deciding all by themselves what it means prior to any KNOWLEDGE of what it ACTUALLY means, is foolish.
I don’t judge here. I try to convince; because it is He who presides over us all, that wills it.
